I need to change something in my life because I’m drowning in Let’s Play and game guides.

The last years of my life have significantly changed my perception of video games and the role they play in the world around me. Objectively, I must say that I have become tragically lazy, although I have several reasons for this. To help, but also in the form of a crusade, Let’s Play and guides come to me.

I play old stuff because I don’t have time for new games anymore.

If I were to mention the video games I spend the most time on lately, this shortlist would definitely include Minecraft, The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+, and Beat Saber. These are not novelties and not titles with a complex plot.

I’d rather call them “time killers”, which nevertheless allow me to satisfy my gaming needs in some way. From Minecraft – creating and materializing my ideas, through building my ego while collecting the latest achievements with Isaac, to physical activity, which is essential for my sedentary lifestyle.

Worth mentioning, both Mojang and Isaac are games that require you to spend tens or even hundreds of hours on tutorials. A few years ago, when I was finishing high school or even earlier, I had a lot more time to immerse myself in game tutorials.

I still have a great time in these productions to this day, and new ones do not necessarily inspire me, because I just have to spend the next million years studying them. In this case, I prefer to sit with guides to my favorite titles, because I know that after such a long time I would rather not give them up.

Row? Movie? No, I prefer Let’s Play

You can safely call me a fan of pop culture. I love all kinds of universes from comics, games, movies and TV shows, and even try to be aware of most of these things. The world is not perfect and the day lasts only 24 hours. So it was natural for me to unknowingly shuffle the priorities among game sources and… Let’s Playe won. This is such an intermediate form between the film/series and standalone games.

And damn it, it’s hard for me not to give the impression that this is a self-propelled snowball. I don’t count the series that I started in the last few months and then tragically ran into a huge pile of embarrassment. There are still disproportionately fewer compared to how many Let’s Play series I ended up watching from all sorts of games. I do not hide, this thought prompted me to deep reflections on myself.

The sad truth about the profession of a gaming journalist

Let me tell you, dear readers, that before I started my full-time job as a gaming journalist, my idea of the profession was completely different. I thought that such a person has a lot of time to play games for review and privately in his favorite productions. Unfortunately, this is actually not the case at all.

Publishers often exchange keys with editors shortly before the official premiere of their debut title. This usually leads reviewers not so much to force this or that game as to neglect other areas of privacy. In the past, when I’ve looked at this headline, I’ve experienced things like spending less time sleeping or ordering food delivered to my home so I don’t have to spend an extra hour cooking in the kitchen.

It is known that this is not always the case for everyone, but in the case of my person and additional responsibilities, such as correspondence studies in Game Design, sometimes it’s damn hard to zip everything up.

Another challenge is just to keep up to date with any current game releases that will be very media oriented in the coming days/weeks. As I mentioned earlier, a gaming journalist doesn’t necessarily have the time to play all the current games or just want to get involved in another challenging game. Let’s be honest, solitaires like Elden Ring are usually the latest hits.

Let’s play – my lifeline with a bag of chips and cola

And it is in these situations that Let’s Play saves me, because when I watch them, I don’t feel like a spectator or a player. And not his illegitimate child, who knows how to have fun, get acquainted with this game and even analyze it from the point of view of designing all the elements. As a person on the sidelines, I have more power to keep an eye on what is essential in the profession of a journalist and, hopefully, a future game developer.

I’m just afraid that this is my laziness in Let’s Play, because I can’t call it otherwise, it will start to reflect on the rest of my daily life. Today I’m watching someone play games, and tomorrow instead of cooking dinner, I’ll be watching Maklovich.
